What is House of Sona
House of Sona is a southern clothing house, working between Madurai, London and San Francisco. It makes modern Tamil clothing: everyday garments that carry the textile traditions of South India.
The house is also known as The House of Sona and, on Instagram, as La Maison Sona (@lamaisonsona). Its website is thehouseofsona.com.
Where is House of Sona based
Madurai, London and San Francisco, in that order.
Madurai is where the house begins: the city in Tamil Nadu that the textiles and the jasmine in the house mark come from. London and San Francisco are where many of the people it makes for live, far from the south and still close to it.
What does House of Sona make
The first garment is the first weave, planned for late November 2026.
- A heavyweight cotton hoodie, around 450 GSM.
- A woven art-silk panel in the hood, with an illustration woven into it.
- An imitation-zari border that follows the edge of the hood and frames the face.
- Red, blue and black, in development.
A ceremonial version with real gold zari will be made to order from January 2027.
The price has not been announced. People on the waitlist hear first.
Who is House of Sona for
For the Tamil diaspora, and for anyone who carries the south with them. For people who grew up far from the town their family is from. For people who know the cloth from cupboards and photographs, and want to wear it on an ordinary day.

House of Sona is run by Shiv Garge, Art Director, and Gopi Garge, Director.
What does the mark mean
The house mark is an engraved emblem. Its site icon is a sprig of jasmine, drawn in the same engraved style. Jasmine is part of Madurai: Madurai malli, the city's jasmine, received a Geographical Indication in 2013.
